Frequently Asked Questions

How does Persistent Wakeup work?

After you dismiss an alarm, WakeUp uses your phone's motion sensors to check if you actually picked it up. If no motion is detected within 30-120 seconds (configurable), follow-up alarms fire automatically at intervals you choose (3-20 minutes).

How does sleep tracking work?

WakeUp uses your iPhone's microphone to detect sleep events like snoring, coughing, sleep talking, and movement. It records audio throughout the night and generates a sleep quality score (0-100) based on duration and events detected.

Does the app work in the background?

Yes. Alarms fire using iOS notifications even when the app is closed. Sleep tracking and nightstand mode require the app to remain open (the screen stays on in nightstand mode with adjustable brightness).

Can I back up my data?

Yes! WakeUp supports iCloud backup. Go to Settings > iCloud Backup to back up your alarms, sleep data, recordings, and settings. You can restore on any device signed into the same iCloud account.

Why does the app need microphone access?

Microphone access is only used for sleep tracking to detect sleep events (snoring, coughing, etc.) and record audio. It is never used when you're not actively tracking sleep. All recordings are stored privately on your device or in your personal iCloud.

Why does the app need motion access?

Motion access powers the Persistent Wakeup feature. It detects whether you've physically picked up your phone after an alarm, ensuring you actually get out of bed.

How do I change the theme?

Go to Settings > Appearance > Theme. Choose from 6 themes: Midnight, Ocean, Sunset, Forest, Aurora, or Daylight. You can also change the app icon in the same section.
