Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 15, 2026
WakeUp 2day ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we access, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data Collection
WakeUp 2day is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, transmit, or share any personal data with third parties. The app contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics, and no advertising frameworks.
All data stays on your device or in your personal iCloud account:
- Alarm data: Your alarm settings, labels, schedules, smart alarm preferences, and automation configurations are stored locally on your device.
- Sleep data: Sleep scores, session history, sleep events (snoring, coughing, talking, sneezing, loud sounds, crying, knocking, sirens, movement), sleep phase data, and movement data are stored locally.
- Audio recordings: Sleep audio recordings are stored locally on your device in AAC format. They are never uploaded or transmitted anywhere unless you manually enable iCloud Backup in the app.
- Settings & preferences: Theme preferences, app settings, smart home device configurations, and other preferences are stored locally on your device.
2. Microphone Usage
The app requests microphone access for the sleep tracking feature. The microphone is only active when you explicitly start a sleep tracking session. Audio is processed on-device using Apple's SoundAnalysis framework to detect 9 types of sleep events (snoring, coughing, sleep talking, sneezing, loud sounds, crying, knocking, sirens, and movement). Audio recordings are stored locally and are never transmitted to any server. You can delete recordings at any time from within the app.
3. Motion & Activity Data
The app requests access to motion and activity data for two purposes:
- Persistent Wakeup: To detect whether you have physically gotten out of bed after an alarm fires. Motion is monitored for a configurable window (30-120 seconds) after you dismiss an alarm.
- Sleep quality tracking: To measure movement during sleep sessions for more accurate sleep scoring and sleep phase detection.
Motion data is processed in real-time on your device and is not stored long-term or transmitted to any server.
4. Location Services
The app requests location access ("When In Use") to display current weather conditions on the clock face. Your location is used solely to fetch weather data from Apple's WeatherKit service. We do not store, track, or transmit your location data. Location is only accessed while the app is in use and only when the weather feature is enabled in Settings.
5. Smart Home & Local Network
The app can optionally connect to smart home devices. We support 6 integrations:
- Philips Hue: The app communicates directly with your Philips Hue bridge on your local network to discover and control lights. Communication stays within your local network — no data is sent to external servers.
- Home Assistant: The app connects to your Home Assistant instance on your local network to control lights, climate devices, and door locks. All communication is local network only.
- Apple HomeKit: The app uses Apple's HomeKit framework to discover and control compatible accessories (including smart locks) on your local network. All communication is handled locally via Apple's framework.
- Nuki Smart Locks: The app connects to Nuki smart locks via the Nuki Cloud API (api.nuki.io) using a user-provided API token. Only lock/unlock commands and device status information are sent. No personal data beyond the lock command is transmitted.
- LG ThinQ: The app connects to LG ThinQ climate devices via the LG ThinQ cloud API using a user-provided personal access token. Only climate control commands (on/off, temperature) are sent.
- Climate Control: The app can connect to climate/HVAC devices through Home Assistant (local network) or LG ThinQ (cloud API).
All smart home device credentials (bridge IP addresses, API keys, access tokens) are stored locally on your device in the app's secure storage. We do not collect, store, or share any data from your smart home devices with third parties. No smart home data is transmitted to our servers — we do not operate any servers. These features are entirely optional and require explicit user setup.
6. Apple HealthKit
The app optionally integrates with Apple HealthKit to:
- Read heart rate data: To display heart rate charts during sleep sessions. This data is read from Apple Health and displayed within the app only.
- Write sleep data: To export sleep session data (sleep duration, quality) to Apple Health so it appears in your Health app.
HealthKit data is handled entirely through Apple's HealthKit framework and is subject to Apple's privacy protections. We do not store or transmit HealthKit data beyond what Apple's framework manages. HealthKit integration requires your explicit permission and can be disabled at any time in Settings.
7. Notifications
The app requests notification permission to trigger your alarms and timer alerts even when the app is in the background. Notification data is processed entirely by iOS on your device.
8. Background Audio
The app uses background audio mode to continue sleep tracking, play sleep sounds, and trigger alarm sounds when the app is not in the foreground. No audio data leaves your device.
9. Intelligence & AI Features
The app includes AI-powered features such as weather tips and sleep chat. AI processing uses on-device capabilities where available. When on-device AI is not available, the app may use Apple's intelligence services, which are subject to Apple's privacy policies. We do not operate any external AI servers and do not transmit your personal data for AI processing.
10. iCloud Backup
WakeUp 2day offers an optional manual backup feature using Apple's iCloud Document Storage. If you choose to enable this in the app's settings, your alarm data, sleep data, and audio recordings are backed up to your personal iCloud account (container: iCloud.com.xcalin.wakeup). This data is protected by Apple's iCloud security and encryption. We do not have access to your iCloud data. iCloud sync is not automatic — you must manually initiate backups and restores.
11. Analytics & Tracking
WakeUp 2day does not use any analytics frameworks, tracking SDKs, advertising services, or crash reporting tools. We do not track your usage, behavior, or any other activity. The app contains zero third-party code.
12. Third-Party Services
The app uses only Apple's native frameworks and services:
- Apple WeatherKit — for weather data (subject to Apple's privacy policy)
- Apple HealthKit — for health data integration (subject to Apple's privacy policy)
- Apple SoundAnalysis — for on-device audio event detection
- Apple iCloud — for optional backup (subject to Apple's privacy policy)
No third-party SDKs, analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used.
Weather data is provided by Apple Weather. Apple Weather and the Apple logo are trademarks of Apple Inc. Data Sources & Legal Attribution
13. Children's Privacy
WakeUp 2day does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Since the app does not collect any personal data from any user, it is safe for all ages and complies with COPPA.
14. Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it. You can delete your data at any time by:
- Deleting individual sleep sessions and recordings within the app
- Removing smart home device configurations in Settings
- Revoking HealthKit permissions in iOS Settings > Health
- Deleting the app from your device (removes all local data)
- Managing your iCloud storage in iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud to remove cloud backups
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
